Inspired: Turning Japanese

This week I have been loving all things Japanese.

While I am a huge traveller, I've never really ventured that far into the Asian cultures. The closest I've come is sleeping in the airport in Hong Kong and riding on the travellators in Singapore airport. I haven't exposed myself enough to oriental cultures. Its been majority European for me. I think I'm missing out on a huge part of the world.

Today, as I was waiting for a file to export at work, I found myself making up a paper crane. I found this therapeutic yet also shocking in the fact that I could create something with my hands (my artistic creativity is very limited).

I learnt Japanese for 8 years in school, one of my best friends is half Japanese and my dad taught me Japanese style karate from the age of 5. So really, this culture has been around me for quite some time.

This little crane made me realise how much I love the Japanese culture yet also reminded me how much I do not know about it. Today I added Tokyo on my "to travel to" list. I think this is necessary. I can't say I have travelled the world if I only travel to the same kind of places. I need to expand my knowledge and culture myself.

This excites me.

Hmm....I think I might go get some sushi for lunch.
p.s. watch "Jiro Dreams of Sushi" - It is seriously so interesting.
