Inspired: Lyrical Love

The other night, Stephen sent me the below link

http://inbflat.net/

When you get there, you are given a simple instruction: "Play these together, some or all, start them at any time, in any order". Below are 20 youtube clips, each featuring a musical number. I thought to myself. Surely this is going to turn out disastrous, surely. But as per usual, my initial thoughts were proved false as I sat back and clicked play on randomly chosen videos in randomly chosen times and listened to the wonderful melodies and tunes that flowed out of my speakers and into my ears.

This happens every now and again. I am brought to a moment where music is greatly appreciated in my soul and I smile to myself as I get lost in a trance of melodic tunes and softly spoken words.

Music has always been a cherished part of my life. I am no musician (even though I used to be a mean bass player back in the day) and I have no love for a particular band or song. No, I more love music for how it makes me feel. I love the way my body moves with music, almost involuntarily. Like a clock, the inners of my body dance in time to the rhythms and beats. Whether it is jazz, indie-rock, classical or even top-40, I love that feeling of getting utterly lost in a string of notes and lyrics. I am often found, alone in my room, headphones in ears, dancing like no one is watching (also a great form of exercise!).

Music has been around for centuries and has acted as a source of entertainment, pleasure and togetherness. The music industry has changed so much over the last 50 years and while there has been some rather interesting marks left on the industry, it generally has been a great source of life for me. Yes, life. Music brings me back to life when I am in my slumps, my darkest days. It takes me away for just a moment and you know what, for just that moment, I feel more free than ever.

What is your favourite type of music? Or a favourite song? I am always looking to add something new to my playlists.

  2. What a cool link! Great idea!
As regards music to listen to- we're more than a little bit obsessed with Lord Huron and The Civil Wars at the moment.
