Polar Opposites

"Are you the happiest and saddest right now that you've ever been?"
"Of course I am. Because nothing makes me happier and nothing makes me sadder than you."
the history of love: nicole krauss

I found this quote on Simple & Rose and fell in love with it. It just made sense.

It made sense because it made sense of something that doesn't make sense. Make sense?

How can two polar opposites work in unison so well?

Can you be hot and cold at the same time? Or tall and short? Or hungry and so-full-you-might-pass-out?

Opposites are opposites for a reason. They are the exactly what the other is not.

But if this is true, then why do they look so beautiful together. Why do they just work?

Blue and orange, opposites on the colour wheel, as far apart as two colours can be, come together twice a day to form a beauty that can only be described as magic.

That's why love is so beautiful. It brings together things that life itself cannot combine. It works in our systems and changes our inner core and before we know it we ourselves are intertwined in this concept and we cannot let it go. It causes extreme misery, but its roots lie in the soil of euphoria and with that we can find complete comfort.

While you grow sadder, you can still grow happier and that is what love provides. It provides a place where opposites can come together and be embraced rather than ignored. It is a thing of beauty.

..and hope

...and magic

...and I find it in you. I find it throughout all of you, every single nook and bend and groove. I find it there, and with you I shall remain, growing in sadness and happiness everyday because that love is there and will forever be.

  3. This reminds me so much of a quote from the Perks of being a Wallflower "I want you to know that I am both happy and sad, and I'm still trying to figure out how that could be." There is something about being both happy and sad that seems more powerful and real than just a single emotion, because humans are such complicated beings when you stop and think.
