The Easter long weekend started early this year. I had an extra day off and goodness, is that not just the best thing someone could ask one. 24 hours of 'free' time.
I woke up late, cause I could. I had breakfast, cause I had time. I shaved my legs, for the same reason I had breakfast and it felt good. I felt good.
I spent the day driving to the country where my Grand-Aunty lives and just because we could, we took the longer route. When does anyone ever do that? I mean, I can't remember the last time I consciously took the 'longer' route anywhere. We live in a culture that never stops. We are constantly moving and communicating at speeds that are unimaginable. We never slow.
Today though was different. We did slow and we did take our time and you know what? That made all the difference.
I've always liked coming here. The wind feels different across my skin and the smells and colours are so warm to the senses. I spend my time here wandering around the garden, finding new nooks that I didn't notice before. I discover and explore. You see, this is why I am a city girl. It makes trips like these, into the country, that much more unique and special.
Nothing beats it.
Love the atmosphere and light in these!
ReplyDeleteSuch trips dedicated to downtime are good for the soul. A very lovely way for you to have spent your free day, taking in the beautiful surroundings. :) Few know how to appreciate it all.
ReplyDeleteThis makes me even more excited for my road trip tomorrow to our holiday house!
ReplyDeleteThis was inspiring, and it made me, even reading it, feel refresh and, well, happy to say the least. Beautiful photos Sam, and I'm glad you had a great day. I would too. :)
I hope your road trip was as relaxing and lovely as mine!
Deletei love slow days. you're so right. everything now seems like it's in warp speed. twitter has definitely changed my life this way. and i used to work in a field where i managed all the digital and social media accounts for an organization and felt like my work never stopped because somewhere somehow we needed to be "in the conversation". conversations never stopped. it gets pretty overwhelming. i am not in that field anymore and i've been enjoying slower days. makes me really appreciate my surroundings. my husband said to me last night, too, "jane, you look so much happier now. i like seeing you like this." i like feeling this way, too!
ReplyDeleteThat's beautiful. It really cements truth when someone else notices a shift in your happiness. I'm glad you are finding peace and contentment with this new slower life of yours. It's what we all need
DeleteThat does sound so inspiring, don't you think everyone single person should at least try doing that (enjoy the real free time)? Sounded to me like a perfect day, and may 24 hours of 'free' time like that be more regularly given to us!
ReplyDeletep.s: the photos are breathtaking.
They really should. I wish I could enjoy more of it
DeleteLove that first photo. So pretty! And I'm so glad you have some time to rejuvenate and relax. Enjoy it!

ReplyDeleteThis is such beautiful post Sam, I especially love the first photo. I stared at it for a good thirty seconds to a minute just admiring the way that you focus the curtain and that although it is a still image you can almost see the curtain fluttering in the breeze. It's perfect.
