When people ask me whether I am a country or a city girl, I don't know how to respond. Nature calls to me in a way nothing else does. I long to be taking a walk through the bush, chasing birds and climbing trees. To me, there is nothing better than a great open plain, wind in my hair, dirt in my toes.
But then I have days like yesterday. When I wander in and among the city streets and am reminded why I love the city. I am reminded how beautiful it really is and why tourists flock by the thousands to see the likes of the white sails of the Opera House or the tall standing Harbour Bridge.
Stephen and I went on a little adventure yesterday to the Vivid Light Festival in Sydney. It was a combination of modern art and electrical installations. There is something about modern art that I truly love. Its kooky shapes and its disjointed lines make no sense but perhaps that is why I love it so much. It's relatable.
You see, I find that my life doesn't make sense half the time. It doesn't flow the way it's supposed to flow. It doesn't follow norms or traditions and quite often it is misunderstood. But there is something beautiful there. There is something beautiful about the untraditional and the 'different'. Half the effort of life is spent trying to find that beauty. It's tricky to see under all that distortion but once you've found it, you can be sure that happiness isn't too far behind.
What did you get up to this weekend? What beauty did you discover?
That room with you, and the floor. Wow. How amazing is that floor!
ReplyDeleteIt seriously sounds like you enjoyed yourself. Sounds like a lot of fun.
Actually, funnily enough, I did discover beauty. Kev and I took a trip to an old lighthouse, along the coast, and I fell in love. It was as though I wasn't in Australia any more. If anything, it felt like I was in Ireland, that's how surreal and beautiful it truly was. I'll be posting about it very soon! :)
That floor tripped me out! So awesome though
Deleteahh soooo lovely! Wish I could fly down to Sydney just for this :) I too love the country but when I visit the city I get all crazy in love!
ReplyDeleteI love these photos! I think I'm more of a city girl, but I do really love the country/spending time in nature.
ReplyDeleteI feel like I was really in Australia through your "vivid" photos. Just lovely!
ReplyDeleteEverytime I'm by the Harbour I fall back in love with Sydney. I'm going to go see Vivid tonight!
ReplyDeleteThese are such lovely pictures, Sam! I can't wait to go see Vivid for myself now :)
ReplyDeleteAh looks so cool! When I was in Queensland I was in the Bond architecture workshop and they had been building their entry for Vivid to be shipped to Sydney! It's so cool that you might have seen it :)

ReplyDeleteps. 3 days!!!!!
2 more sleeps!
Deletethis is an amazing festival!
ReplyDeleteLooks like such a fun day! We ended up going camping on Saturday night, and it rained the whole time, leaving us huddled shivering and freezing in a tiny tent. It wasn't the best camping experience, but when you get through a miserable night with someone you love and you both have a good attitude about it, you feel like you've accomplished something good in your relationship.
ReplyDeleteSounds perfect to me. I mean, that's what travel is all about, your main attraction should be the person you're with not exactly the surroundings that lay before you.
DeleteI love this! I lived in Sydney for three years, and this post makes me miss it sooo much. :)

Hi Samantha! Thanks for leaving the comment on my blog; I agree, it is always lovely to stumble across Sydney siders on here. How good was it?? I've been twice before, and I reckon this year was by far the best. You definitely picked a good year to go to :)
ReplyDeleteOooh my, now that is one heck of a stunning light show! Surely a kaleidoscopical reverie. I would've loved to go if I still resided in the artsy area of Sydney. You are very lucky indeed to be blessed with such blissful adventures, followed by the ability to document them whole. You have a sure knack for that, which you already know by now, of course. I admire every one of your works, Sam. But this post, oh, it just takes my love for you to a whole new level.
ReplyDeleteWow, thank you for your sweet words. It truly was a lovely evening spent with lovely company
DeleteThis looks so beautiful! You are so lucky to live in such a beautiful country!
