Take me back.

I've known Meg, Jes and Emma for nearly a year now. We all share similar interests and passions. We've all been through similar life situations. We're close. Let's just say that.
The funny thing though, is I hadn't met any of them until Saturday.
Making friends over the blogosphere is a weird and wonderful thing. You get to interact with people you've never met but yet on some deeper level you know they understand you, perhaps even more than your 'real' friends do.
Never had I thought that I would find myself so closely connected to an online world and the people in it. And never had I thought I would find myself actually coming face to face with some of these online personalities that I've come to know and love.
We all met up in a quirky hotel in Melbourne CBD. Two Melbournians, one kiwi and me, the Sydneysider. We hugged and laughed and realised that this was a surreal moment; meeting people we already knew.
I, apparently, am much shorter in real life.
I, apparently, am much shorter in real life.
The day was spent wandering around the bay and the city and finding cute little spots to take photos of and chat upon. While we were talking about food, work, school and the male species, I realised that I was talking with friends, not strangers. I knew these girls and I respected them. It's not often you find that. The thing I loved the most* though was being able to talk about blogging with people who actually understood what a blog was and the various purposes of one. We chatted about the quarrels we have with HTML and drawing the line between too much personal sharing and too little and we spoke about how great it is to have people like all of us who we can talk to and relate with.
All in all, it was a wonderful day. I saw a city I have come to love and I met a bunch of young women who I have come to admire.
Next on the agenda: meeting the rest of you ;)
*I also loved that these 3 people weren't old wrinkly men with a hidden agenda (as my mother feared).

ReplyDeleteBut seriously is was perfect. And everything you said is so true. I felt like I had known you girls longer than what I already have, and on a deeper level too. It's not often I feel comfortable around "strangers", but I felt fairly comfortable with you beautiful girls. So thank you for being so open and welcoming!

ReplyDeleteSounds like you had an amazing time! Even though I'd really like to meet other bloggers the idea of not living up to someone's expectations is kind of intimidating. I'm glad my mum's not the only one that feels that way about people on the internet though, haha!

Also I freakin' LOVE that watch, thanks for introducing me to that brand hey.. x

I love your blog and the energy in all of your photos!
ReplyDeleteHopefully this year I get to go to Melb :D
Sam! This post is wonderful! I know I don't comment here all the time but every single time I go and read through your posts, I get lost in all the lovely photography. Your eye for both art and story is amazing. It's like your pictures speak a certain language without the use of words. It would be an honor to be photographed by you! :) I agree about the blogging and friendship thing. It's weird. It's unique but then again it's special. ♥
