Starry Nights

The Milky Way
Star Movement over 15-20min
A plane got into the middle of my shot. Incredible!

I spent the last 3 days in the beautiful island state of Tasmania. We stayed on a friend's farm, surrounded by nothing but fields and misty mountains. At night, the sky illuminated and we would huddle together in the freezing temperatures to watch the shooting stars and satellites travel above us.

These photos aren't perfect. I still need to play around with the settings to get a sharper image but regardless, they mean so much to me.

They represent a wonderful weekend. They represent a universe that I do not know. They make me feel small, but in the best way possible.

There are millions upon millions of stars and galaxies in our skies that we cannot see, and sometimes our lack of vision leads us to believe we are the centre of our own world and the universe revolves around us.

But boy is that such a foolish way to think! Looking up at a starry sky you start to realise that we are far from being at the centre. Our Earth isn't even close, nor is our Sun. The universe expands out to infinite lengths and we are a tiny spec of a spec in that big open space.

We are small and tiny but yet our importance is great. Our tiny spec witnesses love and trust and beauty. We are a civilisation that is flawed yet we are so beautiful and for some reason, in this vast universe of ours, we exist.

The glory of God is present in these photos. You can see it, and even if you can't that's okay. I just hope you can see how beautiful our universe is and I hope it reminds you how small yet incredibly important we are.

What a beautiful reminder to go into this week with.

  13. YES. <3 I've never been patient enough to get the Milky Way in my star shots, I think the longest I've left the shutter open is 50 seconds. But gosh, these are incredible! I'll have to try it someday. :)
