City wandering

Friday saw Stephen and I on the streets of Melbourne. A state away from home, a place to share our anniversary.

It was to be a day of love and wanderings and op shops and laughs.

And it was.

Unfortunately I wasn't feeling too well and we were forced to have a simple day of slow paced walking and lots of coffee stops. We made our way through the narrow lane ways of the city, finding little nooks and crannys that perhaps no one else had ever seen before. We ventured into strange shops that caught our eye and were amused at the odd things we would find. My favourite part of the day though was when we made our final stop by the park. We found a quiet spot under a single tree and we lay on each other and watched the families play around us. We sat in silence for a lot of it but even without words we spoke to one another. Stephen pulled out his book and read quietly to himself as I rested in his lap. My eyes closed more slowly every minute and I found myself drifting in and out of a peaceful rest.

It was a simple day, perhaps too simple for an anniversary. No fireworks went off, no candlelit dinners were had; all we did was wander and sit in each other's company.

But perhaps it's that kind of simple that really marks perfection
