New eyes. New perspective

The thing I loved about New Zealand is that you could look at the same view again and again and it would always look different. Never the same.

The way the light reflected off the snow capped mountains that one morning.

The way the airport's hustle and bustle shone upon the lake at night.

The way one day would shine orange and the next a calm blue.

The same view, always different.

Perhaps that is how I need to start looking at the world. I see the same things day after day but more often than not I look at them with the same eyes as the day before. I fail to notice the little changes in the day around me. I forget that things may in fact be changing but my mind, which has remained in the past, has made me blind.

Just because that hurdle was tough yesterday does not mean it has to be tough tomorrow.

Just because my hair is brown today does not mean it cant be red next week.

Just because I see Stephens face so often should not mean that it is less attractive to me.

I shouldn't need a beautiful sun to show me that the situations I face day to day can always look new and different. All I need is to wake up every day with new eyes and a new perspective.

  2. I love these photos, especially the second one. I can't wait to see the rest of your photos.

You make very valid points! Although it would definitely be easier to look at my life with new perspectives if my life were as beautiful as New Zealand, hahaha (not saying my life isn't beautiful, but I'm not sure if anything can be as beautiful as New Zealand).

  3. Samantha, wow... I honestly love coming to your blog because I always come away so inspired by your thoughts and ponderings. This is truly a beautiful piece, and something I definitely want to spend time thinking about because it's so important and relevant. New Zealand too, whoa..so gorgeous. Those photographs are stunning.

  4. I have lived in the same area most of my life and I try on a daily basis to see the world around me differently. Whether that means eating at a hole in the wall restaurant or taking the unbeaten path. Pushing myself outside of my comfort zone has really helped too. I have come across some of my favourite places this way! Each day is a new day and with it should come a new perspective.

P.s. Beautiful photos as always! The third is my favourite. I have a bit of a sweet spot for orange :)

  11. Lovely photos and amazingly lovely words, too. I struggle so often seeing the world with yesterday's eyes. I see myself as the same girl I was years ago. I see people who have hurt me as the same hurtful/dangerous people. I see the trees outside my window as the same trees that have stood there for as long as I can remember.

And while it's good to see things from the past, like you said, we also need to refresh our eyes and open them up to the beauty in the ordinary. Thank you for that reminder!

Also, I LOVE that you took so many photos from the same(?) location. That is such an awesome idea that produced some amazing shots!

  13. Oh my word what a beautiful set of photos.... second from the top is mindblowing. It actually took me several photos before I realised it was indeed the same place.... Stunning. And so very, very true. Sometimes we need to pull ourselves out of whatever lens we're viewing our lives and the world from and take another look in order to see how rich and full it can be. x
