Plant Loves Picnic

It's an odd feeling when you get to meet someone you've admired for so long.

It's a little overwhelming, a little heart fluttering, and a little exciting to say the least.

A few weekends ago, I attended a Plant Loves Picnic, hosted by Nirrimi Firebrace, to celebrate our love for organic and vegan food. Now, I'm not sure if you've heard of Nirrimi but I've been following her blog since before I had my own. It was her work, her dreams, her love, and her passion that inspired the creative within me, the creative I didn't know existed. From there, I followed her words and her images into a place that made me feel alive and true. She is a dreamer and a lover and a mother and a sister to everyone she meets. She has accomplished so much at such a young age, more than I could ever dream of, and yet, despite all her success, she remains humble - a beautiful virtue to possess.

We all met at Lady Macquarie's Chair, in the heart of Sydney, where we sat upon picnic blankets and surrounded ourselves with organic treats that made me feel like I was in dessert heaven. We chatted about boys and the troubles they so often bring but also how they can bring love like no other to our hearts. We spoke about the projects we were working on and the plans we have for the future and something within me clicked at that moment. I realised I was surrounded by strangers that felt more like family to me than even my closest friends do. I was surrounded by people who understood what it meant to be creative and that it takes more than owning a camera to be a photographer.

I felt at home.

  1. I have admired Nirrimi for the longest time and was actually wanting to go to the plant loves picnic she had in Brisbane! Unfortunately it slipped my mind and I didn't hear anything more about it :( Nirrimi's inspired my own outlook on life so much as well, and she cops a lot of slack for "romanticising life" which I don't think she deserves. It's not that she thinks every moment in life is beautiful and wonderful, but rather that she's chosen to look at each moment in terms of their positives, not their negatives, and I really admire that. So wonderful that you got to meet her and the picnic looks like bliss!

  9. I love your words. There is something so amazing about meeting strangers that you might have met over the internet. It's such a wonderful world that let's you connect with all the wonderful people in it.

I read this article this morning http://bensasso.com/blog/photographers-manifesto/ and your post sort of made me think of the article again. I love being able to meet different people that just want to discuss photography and all the creative projects they're working. And I absolutely hate people who just want to keep their projects to themselves as if someone is going to steal it. We're all in it together. We all strive to become something more than what we are, so why not help each other?

    xo.

    1. I love that article. A few people have shared it this week. It's so important to build a community rather than a competition.

  10. Meeting people is the best part of blogging, in my opinion. Well, easily one of the best anyway.

I absolutely love how you have captured the day. :)
