Springtime Friendship

^^ look ma! I have no eyes.
Sunday was one of those days. You know those magical days where the sun is shining, sleep-ins are allowed and the wind blows past your hair, sprinkling goodness over you in the process? Yeh, it was one of those days.

We brunched, we explored, we laughed, we made friends with animals and we drank rose lemonade. The wind cooled us down, as the more-summer-than-spring sun warmed us up again. We celebrated our dear friends birthday, we tried to figure out what the 'biodynamic' meant in 'biodynamic eggs', and we talked about the prospect of me turning vegetarian (but more on that in a later post).

It's nice to have friends. And while I know that is an obvious statement, I don't think it's really something I understood until now. All my life I have been surrounded by people who were there just out of convenience I suppose. We went to school together, or uni or church and while we were close, sisters even, once you take away the standing structure of the organisation we shared, we found out we didn't actually have all that much in common except for the course we were studying or the God we were worshipping.

It's healthy to be surrounded by people who get who you are, what you do and what you stand for. You can come from all different walks of life and still understand each other and still be able to make the other person feel whole.

Friendship is a beautiful thing and I think I have to stop taking it for granted.

How do you define 'Friendship'? I'm only now just figuring it out.

  5. Oh wow, this looks like it was so much fun! Love the photos of the parrot! It's nice to be able to have a real conversation you actually enjoy and feel engaged in with someone instead of just being surrounded by the same people just because you have similar schedules. :)

  6. I agree Sam. Over the years, I've found out that real friends are people who I didn't have to impress from the very beginning. They stuck with me not because I had something to offer but simply because I am me. I can be weird at times but they're still there not minding how goofy I sometimes get or how suddenly I go from wacky to deep conversations. We differ a lot and have contrasting beliefs and principles but quite surprisingly we complement. I don't have to tell them that I'm not fine on certain days but for some magical reason, they'd show up or send a random message. Friendship is magic and I guess just like romantic love, it is a fairy tale of its own...

Oh and is it just me or is this one of those rare occasions when you're not wearing a dress. I rarely see you not wearing one. Anyway, I love this look so much. That kimono looks so good on you.

  9. this is so great. I left sydney almost three years ago & miss it so much. seeing the food & the grounds of alexandria made me want to come back so badly!! the perfect place. I also love finding friends that are really friends. in your life & not just around your life. it's such a difference, that some people just don't ever find out. I love that you have some great friends to have a great sunday with!! -- ali

  11. Oh wow, this is such a beautiful post! Your photos are very gorgeous *heart eyes*
That's funny because my boyfriend and I were just talking about the idea of friends earlier! I agree with you when you said that once you and your friends go separate ways, that's when you realize that you weren't as close as you thought you were.

  12. Oh my gosh, I have been learning this too! Being just graduated and drifting away from certain friends I thought was bad at first, but I realized just what you are saying here.
Also, I highly recommend the veg life :)

  14. I love all these photos! There's so much colour, animals, the café and food looks amazing!! Sounds like you had a great Sunday. To me, friends are people that you can have fun with and laugh with, but still have serious discussions with. I guess the people that simply keep you company in a certain class or group are just casual acquaintances. New follower xx

  15. Friendship? It's taken me a while to understand the word, too. And I've only recently found it's true meaning over the last year or so, all thanks - in most part - to friends found across the internet. In our blog community. It's a beautiful thing, realising you have friends. Proper friends (if that's even a 'thing'). University, too, has offered me friendships I never before have been a part of, and that's been wonderful.

This post is so lovely, Sam, and I'm pleased you enjoyed yourself as much as you did.

And, you look absolutely beautiful - I love that hair length on you, and you are rockin' that kimono, my friend!! <3

I need to spend more of my days with friends, or with loved ones. You're truly blessed with wonderful people, Sam. :)

    p.s I love your outfit! x

  17. This is the most accurate description of what I've learnt about friendship since I finished school and didn't have a constant structure defining my relationships. I have found such uncertainty but ultimately joy in the freedom I have within my relationships now.
I am so much more me now, for having people are real friends.

Please take me here Sam! It looks so nice! We can wear pretty clothes and take each others photo haha :D
