Floral Friday | Native Blooms

Native Blooms captured at the Sydney Flower Markets
I feel proud to be Australian.

While my background and heritage is from all over the globe, I was born here and that makes me an Aussie, true and blue.

I feel Australia has some of the most unique wildlife of any place on earth. We have animals that carry their babies in pouches, we have mammals that lay eggs, and birds that descended from dinosaurs. Our native plants are even more fascinating, their dry colours and their crisp feel. They have adapted to our hot climates and our temperamental seasons. To me, they are the most beautiful thing.

This past week in Australia has been rather good, I think? It's been one of those weeks that have kind of just cruised by and I haven't had a chance to really delve into anything on a deeper level. Regardless though, here's what I've been up to:

Eating / Vegetarian. Stephen and I have turned vegetarian for the month of November and while we started out a little hesitant, we've quickly gotten used to our new diet. We've been eating quinoa, chia, lentils and falafels and it's been good!
Drinking / Water (I've had too much soft drink this past week so a switch to H2O is crucial)
Practicing / Staying motivated. So so hard.
Buying / Wedding presents. Two of my dear friends are saying 'I do' tomorrow
Mastering / Not feeling guilty when I have to say no
Learning / How to strengthen my body. I have my first pilates class next week!
Trying / To work out what to do next year. Should I quit my job and spend more time on my photography and blog or should I keep with a stable job and juggle it all on weekends. Hmmm...
Playing / with my hair and indadvertedly making it oily. Urgh.
Finishing / A business presentation for work. I make a killer slideshow.
Reading / Not that Kind of Girl by Lena Dunham. I just finished it this week and I am in love. Many people might disagree with me but I really felt a connection with Lena and her thoughts and ponderings of her life. I feel like on some level we think in the same way, despite having very different views and very different lifestyle choices.
Remembering / To stick to deadlines. I have so many...ahh!
Wearing / Stripes. I've gotten rid of my floral craze and replaced it with stripes - either black or navy and white
Cooking / Lentils and quinoa. So so good
Working / More. My photography business is about to get a little more busy and I'm so excited.
Traveling / Not as much as I would like but I'm saving so who knows where next year will take me.
Wanting / To jump in my pool but it's too cold. Hmmph.

  1. Wowza! Sam, these pictures are truly magnificent. I'm planning a trip to Sydney markets tomorrow with my parents, so may pick up some flowers there. That book you're reading is next on my reading list. And gosh, what a big decision to make re. work!

  7. I love Floral Fridays!!! And I'm feeling you on the stripes at the moment, I don't even want to think about how many striped t-shirts I own!!! To be honest, some of Australia's natural wildlife scares me, because while you have cute koalas, you also have snakes, and crocodiles, and big poisonous spiders! I guess it's because in NZ we don't have any of those things that I find them scary.

    1. So true! We have the most dangerous animals in the world and the problem is that most of them can be found in my backyard! Scary stuff
