Small changes

Small changes somehow have the biggest effect on my day-to-day life.

I think it's because these changes are made voluntarily and not by an act of God or an inevitable result of the nature of time.

Like how yesterday I went to an exercise class by myself for the first time in my life

or how I felt the sudden need to move my bed from one side of the room to other making my room, which has not changed in size, seem remarkably bigger. Go figure.

or how I switched my blog layout from right to left and am still undecided on how I feel but for the moment I am happy.

or how I drank a cider before going to bed just because I could, rather than a glass of water.

or how I changed my bed sheets and suddenly life seems great.

I feel like changing things slightly brings about a sense of new beginnings. And even though, knowing me, I'll probably switch it all back next week it's nice to know that change is an option and sometimes it doesn't have to be involuntary.

What small changes have you made this week? Any you would suggest to me? I'm always looking for small ways to spruce up my days

    1. Not strange at all! I do it all the time, mainly with my wallpaper on my laptop. It's a good feeling

  2. I agree that even the smallest change in everyday routine can make one feel better. :) The small change I have made recently was that I sleep five (okay, ten sometimes) minutes longer before my wake up time for work. It's just five minutes but it makes getting up less of a drag. A good small change would be buying a cactus (or any low maintenance plant, really) and putting it on my desk at home.

  4. I love this, little things can definitely be the highlight of everyday life. One (okay, expensive) thing I've gotten into doing is buying a coffee every time I sit down to do work in the library... it makes me feel all grown up and purposeful ahaha.

  5. This was a lovely and thoughtful little post to read. It is a nice reminder that change can be voluntary at a time in my life where so many changes are occurring out of my control. I'll be keeping this in mind!

  6. I usually absolutely hate change. I would never move my bed or change my blog design like you did. But new temporary beginnings sound good. And maybe I should let loose a little and try...

    1. It doesn't hurt to try, and if you don't like it then you can always change back :)

  7. Oh, I noticed your blog design had changed a bit haha.
I always like changing my blog design for some reason, as well as my room. Change the way I organize my books/photos/cameras etc... I don't know why but it always makes me feel happy. x

    1. Same here. I think it's because I get bored easily and I need to change things up to keep me proactive. It's a blessing and a curse

  12. Wow. How did the exercise class go? And what kind was it?! I really, really want to start yoga. There's a library near our house that holds yoga classes on a Monday night and I want to go but I'm scared because I've never been to a class by myself either! Was it scary?! Super brave in my books that you did that. A million points to you!

I smiled at the cider line too. Is it just me or is it normal to forget to be an adult sometimes? Every now and then I'll be debating doing what I want vs doing what I feel I should to do. As simple as... Do I have a coffee now even though it's 5pm and I should be going to bed early tonight? Boo, guess it will be a no. Hang on... What? I'm an adult! I can do what I want! No one is going to tell me off for this! I can make a bad decision and live with it! COFFEE AT 5PM IT IS!

...Also, I like the blog layout shift. :)

  13. How disorientating coming to your blog haha!! I personally prefer the layout you have now because reading from left to right just makes sense for my brain!!

Ps. new bed sheets are pretty much my favourite thing.

  14. Small, voluntary changes definitely freak me out, the fact that I control an outcome can be daunting at times. But of course, they result in growth. I drove to a an unfamiliar state this week for a shoot, so that is my big accomplishment for the time being. (I'm a scaredy driver.) I'm liking the new layout, btw. Kudos to you for overcoming the too difficult left/right debate haha.
