A long weekend

There are days where I just want to do nothing

I just want to sit on a chair and stare off into the distance and not think about anything for a while, to clear my mind and meditate on nothingness.

This whole last month has been a bit of a blur. I've been surrounded by friends, I've been working a lot on my business and I have been trying to squeeze in time for every little thing I can.

I think it's safe to say it has been equal parts impossible and enjoyable.

Last weekend though was a blessing in disguise. We were invited to go stay with friends in Canberra for the 3-day weekend and we jumped on the idea so fast my head spun. We were desperate for a break.

So late Friday evening, we hopped in the car and chased the sunset down to Australia's capital city. They rapped to Childish Gambino and threw around creative ideas in the car while I allowed myself to relax and let my eyes close, falling in and out of dreams.

The weekend was such a chilled and enjoyable adventure. During the day we were tourists, visiting parliament house and dressing up as early colonials and during the night we would relax in the cool breeze eating a home-made meal and laughing about goodness knows what.

It was a busy weekend. I didn't get my chance to just sit and do nothing but I did allow myself to rest, to rid my mind of the burdensome tasks I left in Sydney and enjoy myself in the present moment (something I'm not very good at).

It was nice, and it turns out that's all I really needed.

....

p.s. that grass we're sitting on at Parliament House was actually the most heavenly of things. It felt like a cloud! I could have rested my head there for hours.

i thoroughly enjoyed looking through these shots. and your writing. it's so good for my soul. i'm in that 'sit in a chair staring off into space and not think about anything' stage right now.

  9. The grass in Canberra blows my mind. I mean, for Australia anyway (considering we can be a fairly dry country). I bet it would have been a dream to lie on. Lucky you.

And it's great that you got the chance to escape, even for just 3-days. :)

  11. Ah, the grass at Parliament is actually my favourite thing! I hope you enjoyed your weekend away. I would never go to Canberra for a three day weekend from Melbourne the drive in painstakingly long but I'm glad you got to enjoy the Captial for Australia Day festivities!
