Finding your rhythm

We're already a month and a half into the year and it's only now that I can start to feel my feet on the floor.

Before this week I was somewhat floating above the world, letting the wind take me to wherever it wanted me to go. I followed it's direction blindly and without a struggle. I moved through its currents without purpose or value. I was just there, waiting to figure myself out before I jumped out of it's grasp and onto solid ground.

Though today, I feel like I've been able to make that jump.

I feel more at peace with my surroundings.

I feel like I've found a sense of rhythm.

And I don't think I realised how important that was until now.

Music needs rhythm. Without it you're left with just a bunch of notes and melodies smashed together in a disjointed mess. Each part is important and valuable, but without the rhythm nothing makes sense.

It's like having all the ingredients but no recipe. You can try and put it together yourself and risk making a disaster or you can wait patiently until the right instructions are handed to you to make the perfect meal.

And while I'm not the biggest fan of waiting for my rhythm or my recipe, I know the benefits of those long days and months will bring about good things later down the track.

So that's what I did, I impatiently waited and now I think it's safe to say that Sam's got her groove back.

I've hit the ground and while I haven't hit it running, I can definitely say I have landed and for now that is good enough for me.

I've started small routines from eating breakfast regularly, going to the gym twice a week, and writing in my happiness journal. They're not big things sure, but I'm finding baby steps are the best way to climb a mountain. I don't want to overexert myself and find myself falling back down to where I started.

I have big hopes for this year, hopes for blogging consistently, for travelling far, for reaching goals, and loving more and more, but right now having breakfast everyday will have to suffice.

What are some things that keep you grounded in your life? Any tips for finding your rhythm again?

  1. Oh Sam I needed this. For some weird and magical reason, I find reflections and thoughts whenever I head to your blog. They relate to me in such a grand scheme. As of now I don't think I have completely found my rhythm back but I believe I'm getting there. I'll take that advice. Take it slow rather than run and go back to square one. Thank you Sam! For now the things that have kept me grounded would be friends and family. Nothing beats support from loved ones.

  2. Lovely post, awesome writing. I like to stay calm and relaxed, no matter how stressful and frustrating life gets. My friends and my family keep me grounded, even if they don't realize. They are always honest to me and support me so I'm very glad to have them.

  3. Well done! I found myself quite off my groove too lately but it seems to have settled thankfully. Even the routines can be a bit hum drum I find they do help. Cheers to landing:)

  4. I found trying to find routine when you're freelancing to be so hard at first... Still so hard in so many ways. But I think you're right when you say that it's the little things that make a big different. You're the best xoxo

  5. Sam, this has put a smile on my face....I'm still waiting to find my rhythm. I have found these first 6 weeks of the new year to be a huge struggle, and have (temporarily, I hope) even been 'forced' to stop writing, stop blogging, because of the mental block that has encroached upon my mind. Days are dark, when you aren't able to do the one thing that you love. The one thing that gets you through those low moments. But, knowing that, after you've waited, the ground has come up to meet your feet, I'm hopeful the same will happen for me. So, thank you for sharing, friend <3 I'm sending you love and luck for your journey from here on out.

    1. Thank you beautiful. It is still so hard. I haven't found my blogging rhythm yet but I really hope that I can soon. It's tricky when life gets in the way. It's all about baby steps though. Just one foot at a time

  6. I am on the same journey right now and I agree, baby steps is the way to go.
I really find that prioritising and making to do list every evening/morning helps a lot, so I just know what I have to do and can organise my day around those routines without messing up anything. (if that makes any sense)
It's good to finally find some kind of balance and live for yourself too !

  7. I've definitely been feeling pretty sporadic of late but I kind of just roll with it too, trust that things are unfolding as they should though I get pretty darn happy when I find myself back in a comfortable routine (creature of comfort at heart :))

  8. I think routine helps you find your rhythm. Set yourself a time to do a certain thing every week, or go to school or to your job, and that's a rhythm. But maybe rhythm isn't a good thing. Sometimes it's nicer to have no idea what the beat will do next.

  11. I feel this so much, I feel like I've been floating around, having my adventures and now I've had to come back down to earth and my feet are a little hesitant like magnets that don't attract.
I think I'm about to hit the ground, but that's okay, it had to happen some time! :)
