Now is the time

I've been resting for most of today.

I slept in until 10.30 and then spent the rest of the day catching up with social media, writing some articles for magazines, washing my hair and staring out the window. I've been productive in ways. I'm finding that rest in itself is a thing you need to schedule in to your diary and therefore participating in rest is a form of productivity.

I guess that could be taken as a silly excuse for procrastination and perhaps it is but when you're working all week and then shooting all weekend sometimes that procrastination is very much needed.

This week I made the leap and told my boss I am going part-time. I'm not sure if I've spoken about my work very much on here but for the last two years I have been working full time for a small wholesale company doing marketing and sales. It's, by far, not the most exciting job nor the most highly paid job, but it has been getting me through. Lately though, I have been finding myself needing more time to focus on what's important to me, what I'm passionate about. I came to the conclusion last week that I'm now at an age where I can afford to make reckless mistakes (not that going part-time is reckless) and I have the time to recover or to excel from the decisions I make.

So I've gone part-time. 3 days a week. Tuesday to Thursday, leaving me with a four day weekend to focus on my business, my art and my relaxation.

I'm excited.

I'm excited to get back into what I love. To schedule in more shoots and more personal projects. To work with more people and collaborate on amazing ideas. To travel and to explore.

I'm not going to be in my early twenties forever and while two extra days in my week may not seem like much it's a tiny step in, what I believe to be, the right direction...

...and I can't wait!

  1. Everyone needs a little bit of nothing now and again to recharge! I don't think it's procrastinating at all, in fact it probably helps you to be more productive in the long run!

  2. I am so proud of you Sam! That's a whole lot of courage going on. Chasing after dreams and passion may not be easy but the end goal and the journey that comes with it almost always end up being worth it if not more. I'm excited for you as well. I can't wait to see what projects you come up with! Keep inspiring and keep rocking Sam!

  5. If only school were part time. Just imagining a four day weekend of relaxation and precious time to get everything done would make me excited too. Spend your time wisely. Keep loving and doing what you love <3

  6. I wouldnt call it procrastination if you've been working hard all week. Rest is really important for your health, and more it's actually necessary ! And luckily it's plain enjoyable to do nothing when you've just been through a very busy few days ! ;)

  9. That's a bold and brave move on your part! You're right, it's not the craziest decision to make. But it's still something a lot of people put off or are too afraid to do.

  11. It sounds like I was doing a similar job to you over the last 2 years - I was also working at a small wholesale company, 3 days a week. My last day of working there was last Thursday as I'm moving in the next couple of months and wanted a break before I start a whole new venture. Anyway, I'm excited for you and wish you all the luck with your artistic endeavours!

  16. So incredible and well done on making that leap.. so many are too scared to do it so I commend you. I hope the extra time gives you the space to fill the void that sometimes a full time (uninspiring) job can give. Good luck Sam!
